President Ballard presents to Board of Trustees

In a very busy week for student government, SGA President Ray Ballard represented students in the Illinois Institute of Technology Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee meeting, and introduced the entire Board of Trustees to three main issues to IIT students in a presentation. The first presented issue focused on the inadequacy of Keating Hall and the huge demand for a higher-quality recreational facility with sufficient space to house more intramural sports, athletic classes, and individual exercise. Ballard felt the board was very receptive to the issue and will consider Keating’s importance to IIT student life as they build their long term plans for facilities. The second issue focused on communicating the increasing engagement and importance of students in student organizations, events, and other community activities, and that all Board of Trustees decisions should consider the how students are affected in their time outside of the classroom. The third and final issue discussed the importance of greater IIT visibility in Illinois, the nation, and the world. Some possible recommendations include considering branding IIT as Illinois Tech to avoid competing with ITT Technical Institute, the Indian Institute of Technology, and the Indiana Institute of Technology. Overall, the Board was very engaged in these topics and the presentation may yet produce some long term results that boost the morale of the student body.
